Obituary

Albert J. Sequin “A.J.”, age 60, of Maine, passed away suddenly on February 9, 2026. A.J. was born in Bridgeport on September 27, 1965, beloved son of the late Albert W. and Carol (Piroh) Sequin and had been a longtime area resident prior to moving to Maine 17 years ago. He was a graduate of Bullard Havens Technical High School, class of 1983, attended Housatonic Community College and was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. He was employed by Standard Oil for many years.

A.J. played football for the Stratford and Bridgeport Pop Warner teams growing up, as well as for Bullard Havens Technical High School. Baseball, however, was where he truly excelled, especially at the plate. He played in the Little League, Pony, P.A.L., and Spanish leagues, as well as on his high school team and the Housatonic Community College team. He later gave back to the sport by coaching baseball in the Bridgeport Pony League.

Drag racing was especially close to his heart, as he proudly carried on the Sequin Racing tradition started by his father, Al. A.J. won numerous trophies at tracks throughout the East coast, most notably at Lebanon Valley Dragway, and he competed in many N.E.T.O. racing events. His victories came not only with his car, Tequila Burner II, but also with the restored Why Not—a 1949 Crosley once driven by his father.

Throughout his life, he also enjoyed traveling, fishing, working on his racecars, and spending time with family, friends and his pets. He loved attending sporting events and was an avid Philadelphia Eagles fan.

A.J. had a quick wit and a love for practical jokes, always finding a way to make people laugh. His easygoing nature allowed him to make friends wherever he went.

A.J. was also always willing to lend a helping hand, never expecting anything in return. His loyalty, devotion, generosity, and kindness were truly unmatched. He will forever live on in the hearts of all who knew him.

Survivors include his devoted sister, Patty Mercure and her husband John, cherished nieces, Kayla and Lia and several cousins and friends. A.J. was pre-deceased by his brother, Francis.

Visitation on Tuesday, February 24th from 4-7 p.m. in the Adzima Funeral Home 50 Paradise Green Place Stratford, with a prayer service at 6:30 p.m. Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers please consider a donation in memory of A.J. to: PAWS 123 John Street Camden, ME 04843 or to: DAV Foundation P.O. Box 2005 Milford, NH 03055-2005.
