IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Agnes Barbara
Lavin
October 31, 1930 – June 25, 2024
Agnes Barbara Lavin, nee Starincak, age 93, of Stratford, found eternal peace on June 25, 2024. Born in Bridgeport, Connecticut on October 31, 1930, she was the daughter of the late Michael and Mary (Krivda) Starincak. Agnes graduated from Warren Harding High School in 1948 and was an accomplished athlete, playing on the girls' basketball and softball teams. While she was in high school, Agnes worked at General Electric where she met her future husband, Eugene Lavin. She later moved to Stratford where she lived for more than 70 years before moving to Benchmark Senior Living in Shelton. Agnes graduated from Butler Business School where she was "Steno of the Month". She retired after working for 50 years for the Bridgeport Housing Authority where she was a Project Manager for Fireside senior housing. She was so beloved by her Fireside residents that, when she was transferred to a different facility, they launched a successful call-in campaign to WICC to get her back to Fireside.
Agnes was a parishioner of St. Cyril and Methodius Church in Bridgeport before she joined St. Mark's Church in Stratford where she held several offices in the Ladies' Guild, and was a choir member, lector, and Eucharistic Minister. She was also a member of the Mill River Country Club and a volunteer at Mercy Learning Center. She loved to bowl and bowled in several leagues for many years and was the Wii bowling champion of Benchmark. Although Agnes and her husband took up skiing later in life, she became quite accomplished at it, and skied at Vail, Lake Placid and throughout Vermont and New Hampshire. Agnes was an avid swimmer and card player, and enjoyed day trips to the Mohegan Sun casino. She spent many vacations with extended family in Block Island, Franklin Pierce Lake, Lake Champlain and Cape Cod. Her friends and family will miss her famous holiday nut rolls which her granddaughters hope to duplicate someday.
Agnes is survived by her devoted daughters Eileen Keenan and her husband, Thomas, of Stratford, and Coleen Penacho and her husband, John, of Rye, NH, her beloved granddaughters Lauren Ramos and her husband William, Bridget Garcia and her husband, Edwin, and Casey Penacho, her great grandchildren Mila, Brayden, Kenzie and Giselle who always brought a smile to her face, her sister in laws, Pauline Lavin and Dorothy Lavin, and many nieces and nephews. Agnes was predeceased by her beloved husband of 65 years Eugene Lavin, brothers, Michael, Joseph, Edward and Francis Starincak, sisters, Mary and Cecilia Starincak and Helen Bogash, sister in laws Irene Starincak, Kathleen Lavin and Patricia Christo, and brother in laws Charles and James Lavin, Louis Bogash and Stephen Christo.

Calling hours will be on Tuesday, July 2nd from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Adzima Funeral Home, 50 Paradise Green Place, Stratford.
