Jean E. Miles, 85, a lifelong resident of Stratford, CT passed away peacefully on July 14, 2012. She was the loving mother of Kathleen Schumacher (John) and Bonnie-Jean Perez (Mark), grandmother of Elizabeth Perez, sister of Robert Sexton and aunt of several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by daughter Marilyn, and sisters Ruth Lubas, Ethel Gardner and Theresa Kostelnik. Jean was born on March 24, 1927 in Stratford CT. She attended Stratford High School and served three years with the US Nurse Cadet Corps. She was accepted into the NY Colombia Presbyterian Neurological Nursing Program, and worked as a nurse at CT area hospitals. She attended the University of Bridgeport in her 40’s. In 1970 she received the Chancellor’s Medallion of Excellence as class valedictorian graduating summa cum laude and earning a double Bachelor’s degree in Nursing and Teaching. She continued her education at Fairfield University receiving a double Master’s degree in Nursing and Teaching. She worked for the Stratford School system for over 20 years and was the School Nurse at Food Junior High School and the Lordship School system. Jean was a lifelong member of the Bridgeport Retired Teacher’s Association and volunteered as an instructor with the Red Cross for 28 years. . She was a passionate animal lover and contributed to many animal shelters and organizations. She sang at many area churches the Stratford Congregational Church Oratorio and became a performer with the Bridgeport Downtown Caberet. A lover of history, she fulfilled a lifelong dream of traveling to Egypt, Ireland, Scotland, England and Mexico. She was a docent at the Judson House for many years A Memorial gathering will be held on Friday, July 20, 2012 from 5:00 to 7:00 PM in the Adzima Funeral Home 50 Paradise Green Place Stratford. Interment will be private and at the discretion of family at St. Michaels’ Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the CT Humane Society 455 Post Rd Westport, CT. 06884
